You probably already know that there is a wealth of information online but did you also know that this can be a jackpot of information for article and other writing ideas? One of my favorite ways to find article writing ideas is from free eBooks. There are tons of them out there and you can find them easily with just a few web searches and some time.

There are eBooks on every niche you can think of and there are many available for free because they are given a free package or by an Internet marketer who wants to drive traffic to their site. But you can use these for writing ideas yourself.

Before I go any further, let me say that you should in no way plagiarize these books or this content. If you’re confused about Internet copyright law, you should take some time to look it up right now. It’s also important to know that taking someone else’s writing and “rewriting” it is still a form of copyright infringement. You’re stealing that author’s ideas.

What I mean instead is that you can use these eBooks to see what’s out there already, what other people have to say about your topics or niche and as fuel for your own ideas. Often I read through these eBooks and I can’t write my ideas down fast enough because they make me think of so many more things I want to add.

Other times I read them and I laugh at how outdated or inaccurate they are. This is another opportunity to write your own articles or books that improve upon what is already out there. Do you have a unique view you can add to a scenario or unique experience in the industry that you can share with others? This is a great opportunity for writing your own content.

One of the biggest excuses people have for not writing or for procrastinating on their writing is that they don’t know what to write about. You can get writing ideas from free eBooks and you won’t have this excuse anymore. All it costs you is a little invested time.

Listen closely.  You’re going to have to come closer than that. Closer … Shhh, can you do me a favour and keep a secret?  Don’t tell anyone but I am about to reveal how pro-bloggers never run out of writing ideas!.  How they are constantly overflowing with fresh ideas and stay on the cutting edge.

Okay, enough of the theatrics (hey, I was bored …) – time to get straight to the point..  My top tip for keeping a constant flow of writing ideas for your persuasive essay to is to use Google News and Blogs.

For this exercise, head on over to google.com.  Across the top left hand side of the page you will see a menu.  I can see Web, Images, Maps, News, Video, Gmail and More.  Click on News.

If you have never been here before, this is Google’s news page.  This page will be full of news headlines and is fully customizable.  If you are looking for general writing ideas, this page is packed full of goodies.  But for this exercise I am going to assume you have a rough idea on what you want to write about.  My topic will be solar power.

Enter your chosen topic into the Google search bar and hit Search News.

The page that loads will now have a series of news articles from around the world that relate to your phrase.  By default, the articles are sorted by relevance.  You can sort by date using the choices at the top right of the page.

Scroll down the results.  Do you see anything interesting for your research?  In my results, the first 4 are –

Solar panels – beware of counterfeits (Energy Matters – Australia)
LG announces solar powered mobile (Techradar – UK)
Bharat hot on solar cookers, new energy (Times of India – India)
Dow at work on solar power shingles (Toronto Star – Canada)

It would not take you long to amass several articles that will give you some great ideas.

Another hot source of writing ideas on this page is the Google Blog search.  In the left hand side menu you will find the menu heading Blogs.  Click on this.

The Blog search is similar to the News search, but this shows recent blog entries from the web.  I can see blog entries on DIY solar and cutting coal use with solar power.  News will give you some good factual information while blogs can be more opinionated.  Both are great places to start your search.

Warning – News feeds and blogs are great places to do research.  Don’t copy what you find here as your own work.  Duplicate content filters will spot that in the blink of an eye.  What you can do is use the research as guidance.  What is your opinion on what you have read?  Write about that instead.

Knowing how to write articles using a format that readers find appealing is one of the most effective writing skills you can develop. By and large most readers prefer articles that utilize a ‘list format’ since it presents the content in a systematic and organized fashion. When you are writing for your reader you want to concentrate on not only the quality of the content but also the layout.

Presenting your content in a fashion that is easy for people to follow encourages them to continue reading through the entire article. When you spend the time to write an article there is no greater compliment than to have readers read it completely.

So now we want to review in 7 steps how to learn to write articles in a format that will appeal to your readers:

Pick Your Subject

Your article content should usually be related to the topic of your blog or website. Try to choose a subject that is ‘hot’ and current within the circles of your niche. When you write an article you always want it to be relevant and current so a quick review of recent events is a good start for writing ideas.

Develop Your Ideas

After narrowing down your writing ideas into one topic you’ll want to next consider possible sub-topics around which you can base your list. Remember you’re just coming up with a list of topics here so there’s no need to write complete thoughts or paragraphs at this point.

Determine the Length of Your List

Ok you’ve developed a sizable list of sub-topics to work with so now you want to decide the length of the list you’ll use for your article.

In choosing a list length it is recommended to pick odd numbers such as 3, 5, 7, or even 10. An article such as ‘The Top 10 Reasons…” or perhaps “5 Primary Causes of …” seem to catch a readers eye more easily. For undermined reasons readers seem to prefer list that are of these lengths!

Select Your Best Ideas

When reviewing the sub-topics you’ve developed for your article you’ll want to choose, obviously, your ‘best’ topics for inclusion on your list. Enough said here.

Logically Arrange Your Ideas

When writing for your readers you want your content to flow in an organized manner that makes sense. The same goes for the order in which you list your sub-topics. You want your list to reflect some logical pattern making it easier for the reader to follow so keep this in mind as you arrange this list.

Compose an Introduction and Conclusion

This should be relatively easy to do at this point since you already have put together the content of your article. These may be the only areas of your entire article where your writing skills are put to the test
In your intro just briefly discuss the reason for your list and how it will help the reader.

Your conclusion will simply state what your list just covered and how it will help your reader if they act upon your suggestions.

Effective writing always lets the reader know what they are about to read in the introduction and then what it is they have read in the conclusion.

Develop a Catchy Title

With an article using a list format it is not too difficult to develop an eye catching title. Just including the number on the list and stating the benefit of the list itself within your title will catch a readers’ eye.

For instance you have of list of 10 home remedies for poison ivy well there you go:

“10 Ways to Cure Your Poison Ivy at Home” or “10 Remedies that Will Stop Poison Ivy and Cut Medical Costs”.

Knowing how to write articles using a list format will not only win the appeal of your reader but also make your article writing much easier. It is to your advantage and to the benefit of your readers to learn to write articles with this type of format. You will find your article writing is now less a chore while people will find reading them more enjoyable. Everybody wins!

Creative writing is a wonderful way to relax and is even now being used as a type of therapy to treat many conditions and diseases. Everyone gets stuck for ideas from time to time; however. If you find yourself in need of creative writing ideas, there are many techniques and methods you can explore for inspiration.

The exact creative writing ideas that you choose from will depend on the type of writing that you wish to do. For example, you might think of creating short stories. Short stories are ideal because you do not have to commit yourself to a long project. In addition, short stories provide an excellent way to explore an idea which you may have. Due to the fact that the story is short, if you find that it simply is not working out, you can toss it and not feel as though you have wasted a lot of time on the matter.

Writers can often find many creative writing ideas right within their own surroundings and environment. People watching is a great way to come up with ideas. Consider packing a brown bag lunch one day and heading to the park for some people watching. Gaze at the people around you. Imagine what may have brought them there. If you happen to pick up on a conversation, imagine how that could be spun into a story.

Of course, there are many other ways in which you can get creative writing ideas as well. Think about your work or your favorite restaurant or even your favorite vacation destination. Think about ways in which you could create a story about those settings.

Quite surprisingly, your dreams can also prove to be fertile ground for creative writing ideas as well. While we cannot always remember all of our dreams, if you do happen to remember one that is especially interesting, imagine how you could transform it into a story. You might even think about keeping a journal and a pen near your bed so you can write down the details of your dream when you first awaken so you can be sure you will not forget them later in the day.

Keeping a journal or a diary is another great way to come up with creative writing ideas. Even seemingly innocuous events that occur throughout your day could very well be turned into great creative writing ideas. Begin keeping a journal or diary on a regular basis and then read through it periodically to root out ideas.

Remember, that if you ever find yourself without creative writing ideas, all you really have to do is to turn to your environment. Many people find that their best stories really do come from what they know best. The most critical point is to make sure that you write on a regular basis. Staying motivated with creative writing ideas and exercises is a wonderful way to improve your writing and enjoy the process.

According to Google, people just like you searched for “writing ideas” an incredible 74000 times world wide last month.  That’s a staggering number and means they ended up at Google because they have absolutely no idea what to write about.  Stuck for ideas?  Come on, it’s not that hard.  I am about to share with you my best tip for finding socially interesting topics to write about that will save you hours of agony.

Open your browser and head over to www.digg.com  Now, if you are under 30 and know how to turn a computer on, then there is a good chance you don’t need me to explain what social bookmarking is.  So just slip on the ipod headphones for a minute while I give a short and simple definition for the rest of my readers.

For everyone else, www.digg.com is what we call a social bookmarking site.  Have you ever found a site that interests you and added it to your favorites in Internet Explorer?*  It makes it easy to come back to because you like the site.

Well, the internet is a global community.  If you like the site, then do you think other people might want to know about it too? Instead of adding it to your favorites on your computer, you can do it on a social bookmarking site so other people can see it.  If they agree and like it too, they can vote on the article.  Go to www.digg.com and you can see the most popular stories at the moment.

Just about any article on the front page is a good place to start your search for writing ideas.  Scroll down and see what interests you.  At the time of writing, I can see –

Samsung launches solar-powered phone.
Man gets 20 weeks in jail for whistling.
Casinos on alert for card counters using iPhones
NASA’s 10 greatest achievements

If you are free to write about anything, then it will only take a few seconds for some great ideas.  If you have a range of topics to keep to, use the search function at the top of the page.

Want some extra credit?  Remember it is the controversial topics that get attention.  Scroll down the front page articles.  What has the most comments?  If an article has 800 diggs (votes) and 30 comments, then it may be a little conservative.  If it has 600 diggs and 400 comments, then that is a hot topic to write about.

* Now don’t send me hate mail because I mentioned Internet Explorer instead of Firefox, Flock etc etc.  If someone does not know what social bookmarking is, then I would bet 99% of the time they are using IE.

Did you like the article?  Then please do me a favour and eave a comment or bookmark it.  Thanks!

Are you struggling in finding the best topics for your essay? Then, here are some great ideas for you:

1.  First, I highly recommend that you discuss the most pressing issues being faced by your target market. Talk to these people on forums or send them easy-to-answer questionnaires. Simply ask about the latest problems that they need to deal with. Then, write about these problems on your articles in detailed. Talk about their causes, symptoms (if applicable), and the best remedies.

2.  Another great topics for your articles are the burning questions of your readers. Again, go to forums and list down the most common questions being thrown by your audience with one another. Provide the best answers for these questions on your articles.

3.  Goals of your readers. You can also talk about the things that your readers would like to achieve and then help these people to realize them.

4.  Step-by-step or how-to guides. People these days simply want to learn how to do things on their own. You can help them out by offering them easy-to-follow guides. Give these people all the steps that they need to take and ensure that all your instructions are complete and clear.

Sitting down to write a persuasive essay can be a daunting process.  The theory is simple –

1.  Title
2.  Thesis
3.  Paragraph 1 with supporting facts.
4.  Paragraph 2 with supporting facts.
5.  Paragraph 3 with supporting facts.
6.  Conclusion and summary with call to action.

But try to put this theory into practice and many people stare at a blank page (or computer screen).  How do you get started?  In this article I have a couple of killer tips to write that persuasive essay.

Free Writing

No one expects you to sit down and write perfectly crafted prose on your first attempt.  Putting that expectation on yourself straight up is a sure fire way to bring on writer’s block.  If you are staring at a blank page, try free writing.

Just relax and write.  Write whatever comes into your mind about your chosen topic.  Don’t stop to edit.  Don’t even bother creating whole sentences or separate paragraphs if you don’t want to.  Just keep writing.

You can set a time limit if you want, for example, 10 minutes.  After your initial spurt of activity, read through what you have written for ideas to develop further.  All of the articles I write for this website started out as free writing.   The first few lines of free writing for this post looked like –

Starting to write … daunting process.  Theory is simple.  Title thesis  supporting paragraphs conclusion.  How do you get started … free writing … mind maps …

Your free writing might end up as points to develop further.  It might even be complete paragraphs you can use in your final composition.  If you sit down and free write for just 10 minutes, you will often end up with 300 words of good material.

Mind Maps

The second trip to getting started is a mind map.  This has helped people chunk down their problems (no, that is not a reference to beer and pizza night gone bad) for decades.  Put simply, a mind map is a diagram linking ideas on a piece of paper and is a fantastic brainstorming tool.

To start, grab a scrap piece of paper.  In the centre, write down the idea you are trying to convince your audience about.

What is the main reason they should believe you?  What benefit do you they get from siding with you?  Draw this in a box off the right and link the two.

Now list 2 or 3 facts that support your first reason.  Discuss them with a few bullet points.  Link these back to your First Reason box.  Now come up with your Second Reason and a Third Reason, each with their own supporting facts.

You know have a diagram that looks like a bit of a pyramid.  One goal, three reasons, 2 or 3 facts per reason.  Now stand back and look at what you have just created.  It might not be art, but it is an outline.  What you are trying to convince people of is your thesis statement.  Each of the reasons are the subjects for your supporting paragraphs.  And each supporting paragraph already has some facts you can use to create authority with your readers.

The essay as a whole can be a little daunting.  But break it down into manageable chunks and you are quickly on your way to writing your persuasive essay.

When seeking out writing ideas, it’s perfectly acceptable to draw inspiration from other people’s work. Checking out what other writers have done and using them to find possible material is actually a great way of finding new stuff to write about.

If you’re stuck on what subject to write an essay for class on, for instance, you can draw plenty of ideas from old student essays in the library. You can adapt them to for your own purposes, add your personal viewpoint or supplant it with new research to turn it into a whole different piece.

This is the same manner in which a lot of professional feature writers get their ideas, staying on the lookout by perusing multiple magazines, newsletters and other publications, particularly ones with a focused local bent. In fact, many working professionals make this a part of their daily habits, maintaining a ridiculously large RSS subscription list, apart from the piles of physical materials they regularly go over.

A small sidebar item on a magazine, for instance, can be turned into a full-fledged article for a writer willing to add a little more research to it. Even a small incident on a historical essay, in a similar way, can be expanded to serve as the core topic for your own class assignment.

When spinning off ideas from other writers, it’s important to consider what value you’re going to add to the piece. After all, if you just rewrite what the other writer has previously covered, you’ll likely just land in trouble with your editor or class professor, whichever the case may be. At the least, try to improve upon it by either expanding the coverage or adding depth.

Similarly, make sure to use a good writing software to help you out. The last thing you want is for people to compare the material and find yours riddled with plenty of deficiencies.
