Today’s essay example discusses the benefits of buying a franchise during a recesssion. While the guest submitted essay does not follow the typical persuasive essay format (nor professionally written for that matter), it does take on a difficult topic. Because of this, it is a useful example of how you can use benefits to convince your readers in a persuasive essay.

One of the worst areas of any recession has to be the numbers of organisations that don’t survive. In a market like the one the world has experienced over the last 12 months a number of factors have affected the capacity of a business to continue to operate.
First there is the drop in consumer spending which has resulted in increased competition in the marketplace. Only the most effective organisations carry on in this environment.
Second is the shortage of access to funds and investment. When organisations experience cash flow or revenue trouble then they rely on the banks to provide funds to get them through. As we all know those funds have not been obtainable.
The net result of these factors is that organisations are failing. When businesses fail they leave holes in the market; demand for a product or service has not necessarily lowered just because a business providing it has ceased trading. To start a new business in a recession purely re-providing a product or service needs funds or access to funds. If a new start up is funded by the owners then there is inherent personal risk in the possible failure of that business, and as we have already established help from the banks is unlikely to be immenent.
The other way of breaking into a market sector is through the procurement of a franchise opportunity. Where there is a franchise for sale, there is the opportunity to get into business with less risk.
Even where there is a franchise for sale there is some risk as the success of the firm will depend on the skills of the franchise operator. That said the investment is preset and known and the market opportunities should be apparent as the owners should be able to display success in that particular market place.
Of course while franchises do give a low risk entry they do have some traits which need to be thought through, including a thorough evaluation of the franchise business model and the profit figures offered by the current franchisee. Also, for a free spirited entrepreneur the opportunity may be a little restricted. A franchisor will expect the brand and product or service to be maintained, with very little space for self- expression.
There is also the issue of competition to be taken into account within the franchise itself. If it is a national business for example strict boundaries will need to be enforced. With that said, a franchise can offer a low risk, soft start in running your own organisation.
